Jesters

Jesters are a diverse group categorizing a specie of Cognitae with shared characteristics. There exist a wide array of jesters, with such variety it's quite challenging to categorize them.

One thing all jesters have in common is their colorful skin markings, commonly present around the eyes.

Life cycle

Jesters begin their life in an egg. It's care is shared between parents, taking turns carrying it. This stage usually only take a few weeks to months, after which the egg hatches into the larval stage of Jesters: the Doll.

The Doll stage is named as such due to the uncanny appearance of newly hatched jesters; with beady eyes and simplistic anatomy, they heavily resemble an inanimate child's toy. They start off only a couple inches tall, and grow at a very unpredictable rate.

A matured Doll is named a Puppet. It distinguished itself from the doll stage by the Jester's physical and mental capabilities reaching maturity. They usually stand at just a few feet tall. From that point on, Jesters have the ability to grow into to main types of jesters; some individuals even able to take both forms, shifting between them.

The first type, named a Carrel, resemble in appearance an average Wonder or Diogenid, with a bipedal demeanor, thumbed hands, and smooth skin. Carrels usually have voluptuous hair, colorful skin marking, and thin tail. Other common Carrel traits include horns, additional mouths and/or disproportionate limbs.

The second type, named Folly, have much less cohesion in their form. The only way to tell a Folly from another type of creature is by the characteristic jester markings.
